Update: PLAYERS Championship & Driving
Two quick updates...
1. This week is PLAYERS Championship, highly regarded by players and fans alike as the tour's fifth major. Here's whay I like it so much and why you want to tune in...
-IT'S TOUGHER. TPC Sawgrass had a major renovation since the event last year...making it even more diffifult than before.
-BRAGGING RIGHTS and PEER PRESSURE. In the locker room, this is the one that most palyers want...even more than majors.
-BEST FIELD ALL YEAR. Because of the strict entrance requirements this tourney only allows the cream of the crop.
-THAT @#%! 17TH ISLAND HOLE! This one makes even the pros look like 25 handicaps with all the splashes and kerplunks. I love it because you can watch this hole live every day for free on your computer at http://www.pgatour.com/livegolf/
Are you as excited as I am? I hope so. WHO DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO WIN? Let me know by posting your comments below!
2. I'll be releasing the long-awaited and heavily anticipated DRIVER DVD next TUESDAY, MAY 15th, 8AM PT. It's been in production a long while and honestly this one took the most time to make because of all the extra footage we shot. It's outstanding and I know you'll love it. As always, will have limited stock so mark your calendars for next Tuesday.
I hope you enjoy the PLAYERS Champoinship as much as I will and talk to you soon.
Best,
Jack

Tiger seems to be coming around. He has to be the favorite and I think he will win the PLAYERS.
May 8th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
I agree with Bob. Tiger’s looking good this week, even though he only has one win at TPC. My money’s on Tiger.

Hi Jack:
My choice for this tournament is Steve Stricker who has been coming on strong in the last few outings. It is time he broke loose.
I love your newsletter Jack!

Without a doubt, Tiger Woods will win the Players. He’s on a roll.
Coupled with his extraordinary talent and luck is his relentless
desire to win.

Gotta go with VJ this week. Since the course has been changed so much I think that, at least among the top 7-8 in the world, it’s almost a level playing field.

If Zack Johnson can win the Masters anyone in the Players’ fiels can win.
Of course Tiger will be there abouts at the finish..he is the closest thing to a sure each-way bet in golf you could imagine.
I think Leftie is hitting his straps and I can see ( sorry, visualize) him powering his fade down the 72nd to set himself up for his first win of the year.

I think Tiger Woods will win undoubtedly, but you have to watch out for Zack Johnson and Vijay Singh to also appear on top of the Leaderboard. But It’ll be Tigers for the taking!!

I AM GOING WITH OUR GREAT CANADIAN MIKE WEIR.

There’s a lot of talk about Tiger, Zach, Vijay, and Phil winning The Players. And in fact each of them have undoubtedly the ability to win. But let’s analyze the situation to determine which of the 4 has the best chances…..
To start off, the TPC at Sawgrass has been revamped and even though not lengthened from the original 7,093 yards, it is still playing more difficult due to more bunkers, waste areas, and firmer and faster greens. Original layout, tougher conditions!
1. Tiger…..need we say more. He is and will be the favorite for many years to come. But, the facts are he has won 50% of the tournaments he has played in this year. The Stadium Course he knows as well as, if not better than anyone. He has won there many times before as an Amateur and Pro. And he has momentum from his last win. Down the stretch he did make mistakes. And those mistakes I’m sure he wants to correct. Which makes his chances to win even higher.
2. Zach…..Our current Masters Champion. He literally came out of no mans land to win. But through his ability to stick to his game plan he was able to stay in the “now” and accomplish a feat that not too many players will ever even see. He is not the longest hitter of the ball. But his accuracy is his main asset. If his game comes together with those abilities, He will be a candidate for The Players.
3. Vijay…..Is always good for a surprise. His performance the last couple of years has been over par for his expectations. And he would like to smell the roses after a well earned “W” in a “major” event again. As a seasoned veteran, he knows the course well. You should see him in the top 10 and as a contender for the title.
4. Phil…..No one knows what he’ll do. Sure he is a contender. And I expect to see him up among the leaders as well. He takes a lot of risks off the tee due to his imaginative thinking. And mostly it pays off. Just every once in awhile one will get away and cause him trouble. That makes watching him so much fun…..
And don’t forget all the other Players in the field. Each and every one of them have the ability to win. Especially when there games are on….

I think Vijay, Immelman and Goosen all have a realistic change of winning, if Tiger brings his C-game. Will be watching the telecast eagerly early morning (3:00 am) local Perth time.

I’m holding thumbs for Ernie. If and when he starts firing , it will be something to whatch.
If I had to put money on it then I would go with Tiger.

WOULD LIKTO BELEVE IN TIGER TO WIN BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS COMING INTO THEIR OWN THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO NAME ONE. WISH ALL OF THOSE WHO NAMED THEIR CHOICE–GOOD LUCK. I’LL WAIT & SEE. CHET

Thanks Jack. Can’t wait to get the new video. I have really improved my game since I have hooked up with you last year (5 strokes off of the handicap, 17 to a 12) and I am really excited about this year will bring. Keep those lessons and tips coming.
Not sure who will win this week, but I am a huge Tiger fan, and I think he will again be in contention. Take care.

I like Tiger, Phil, Goose, Vijay and Jim Furyk in the top five. However, despite my wanting TW to add another victory, I am going with Ernie Els to win with a strong Saturday and Sunday. He is way over due. Also, never count out the older champions i.e., Mark Calcavecchia, Fred Couples and don’t forget Sergio.

This is a response to John Hemm.
I agree with allot of what you said except for the part about Tiger and Vijay knowing this course very well.
With all the changes to the course since last year, no one knows the course better than anyone else. It’s allot different, especially the greens. Add to that the fact that because of weather, there wasn’t allot of practice Tuesday and Wednesday, which is why I say anyone of the top 5-7 in the world can win this thing.
I still believe Vijay will win, but one can never count Tiger out.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:25 am
Where are all the Fred Couples fans? I hope he is involved in this tourney and I am sure that he will do well from now on in len
May 10th, 2007 at 10:40 am
Tiger for obvious reasons is the favorite, but again I think someone will win who will surprise us all.
May 10th, 2007 at 11:08 am
I am going to suggest that Anthony Kim will break out this week with his first PGA victory as he has been playing well since joining the tour last year and he has already demonstrated the ability to finish strong.

I agree with Tina…about all we will see is Tiger. I’d like to see Phil win this one.
May 11th, 2007 at 2:47 am

Great comments except that Furyk will win this. His play is very consistent this week and he is going quietly about his job. He knows the new course extremely well, better than most. Come Sunday afternoon, he’ll be there. Phil will collapse as a result of taking too many chances.
This is not a track for chancers.
Tiger is not playing his best golf right now. He won last week, but even he admits that he was lucky. Perhaps he has other things on his mind like a new member to his family. Perhaps his knee was hurt last week.
Furyk is the man!
